Senior software developers in Pakistan typically cost $20–$45 an hour as freelancers, and most Pakistani development firms on Clutch list $25–$49 an hour. That is about $3,200–$7,800 for a full-time month of 160 hours. Seniority, proof of shipped work, the hiring model and the hours you need covered move the price most. Pixelpk’s AI-powered dedicated developers start from $25 an hour.
What do software developers in Pakistan cost?
What buyers pay, from published rate data:
| What you buy | Hourly rate | 160 hours at that rate | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Senior freelance developer in Pakistan | $20–$45 | $3,200–$7,200 | Arc rate guide |
| Junior developer at an outsourcing firm in Asia | $24–$31 | $3,840–$4,960 | Accelerance partner survey |
| Senior developer at an outsourcing firm in Asia | $31–$41 | $4,960–$6,560 | Accelerance partner survey |
| Pakistani development firms listed on Clutch | Mostly $25–$49; some $50–$99 or under $25 | $4,000–$7,840 for the main band | Clutch directory |
Accelerance’s figures cover Asia as a whole, and its latest survey found Asia’s effective rates dropped nearly 8% in a year. Clutch bands are self-reported.
What developers earn in Pakistan, by seniority
Local salaries explain why rates are low, but they are not what you pay. Converted at 1 USD = 278 PKR:
| Level | Payscale, base salary | Levels.fyi, total pay |
|---|---|---|
| Entry level | Rs 715,365 a year (about $215 a month) | PKR 1.33 million a year (about $400 a month) |
| Senior | Rs 1,540,412 for senior engineer titles (about $460 a month) | PKR 6.47 million (about $1,940 a month) |
| All levels | Rs 965,218 (about $290 a month) | PKR 3.11 million (about $930 a month) |
The sources sit two to four times apart. Payscale reports base salary from 429 profiles across the local market; Levels.fyi adds bonus and stock and draws on 124 self-reported salaries, only 22 of them senior. Treat Payscale as the broad market and Levels.fyi as the top end.
A $460 monthly salary against a $35 hourly rate is not all margin. A firm also pays employer contributions, leave, holidays, hardware, office space, recruitment, management, QA, tools and replacement cover. Freelancers selling abroad price against international rates, not the local median.
Does the stack change the rate?
Less than seniority does. In Payscale’s Pakistan data, stacks vary less than entry-level and senior pay do. The skill figures mix all experience levels, so use them to compare stacks, not to price a hire.
| Stack | Payscale average base salary in Pakistan | About per month | What raises the rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laravel / PHP | Laravel Rs 729,000; PHP Rs 812,000 | $220–$245 | Multi-tenant SaaS, queues, automated tests, cloud deployment |
| React / Node.js | React.js Rs 951,000; Node.js about Rs 1 million | $285–$300 | TypeScript, Next.js, API design, performance work |
| Flutter / React Native | Flutter Rs 881,000; React Native about Rs 1.2 million | $265–$365 | Native modules, payments, offline sync, store releases |
| .NET | .NET developer Rs 1,110,000 | $335 | Azure, enterprise integrations, legacy migration |
| AI / ML engineers | Machine learning Rs 595,000; ML/AI engineers PKR 1.55 million total pay on Levels.fyi (15 reports) | $180–$465 | Production AI agents, retrieval (RAG), evaluations, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, cost control |
Public data on AI engineers in Pakistan is too thin to price a senior hire: Payscale’s machine-learning average sits below the web stacks, and Levels.fyi’s rests on 15 reports. Arc notes that AI coding assistants have pushed pricing up for experienced engineers who can architect systems and review AI-generated code. Pay that premium for evidence of AI running in production, not for a title.
How does Pakistan compare with other regions?
Pakistan sits at the low end of every published range, with India and parts of Southeast Asia. Eastern Europe and Latin America cost more, and US or UK staff several times as much.
| Region | Senior freelance rate (Arc) | Firm rate, junior to senior (Accelerance) | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pakistan | $20–$45 | $24–$31 to $31–$41 (Asia) | UTC+5; strong Gulf and Malaysia overlap |
| India | $25–$60 | $24–$31 to $31–$41 (Asia) | UTC+5:30; similar overlap |
| Eastern Europe | Ukraine $35–$70, Serbia $35–$75; region, all levels, $40–$85 | $31–$39 to $64–$76 (Europe overall) | Good UK and EU overlap |
| Latin America | Region, all levels, $35–$75 | $33–$45 to $60–$75 | Works US hours |
| Southeast Asia | Vietnam $28–$60, Philippines $22–$50, Indonesia $25–$55 | $24–$31 to $31–$41 (Asia) | Close to Malaysian hours |
| US / UK freelance | US $95–$150, UK $78–$125 | – | Your own hours |
| US / UK employee | Median $135,980 a year (US), £65,000 (UK) | – | Before benefits and employer taxes |
The sources disagree, so read each row as a range. Arc’s senior range for India reaches $60, above Accelerance’s $31–$41 for senior developers at Asian firms, though firm rates usually carry overheads freelancers don’t. Arc draws on marketplace, recruiter and hiring data; Accelerance surveys 60 partner firms. Accelerance itself warns that picking a provider on rate alone is risky.
An in-house US hire costs more than the salary. The BLS median wage of $135,980 is about $65 an hour over 2,080 hours. Wages are 70.0% of employer compensation costs in private industry, so with average benefits the total is about $194,000 a year, or $93 an hour, before recruiting, equipment and office space. The UK figure, from job adverts, excludes employer National Insurance and pension.
What does the rate include under each hiring model?
How you buy a developer’s time changes what the rate covers:
| Model | What you pay | Speed to start | Main risk | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | Hourly rate, plus platform or payment fees | Days | One person, no cover for leave or exit, uneven quality | Short, well-defined tasks you can review yourself |
| Agency project | A fixed or capped price for an agreed scope | After scoping | Change requests cost extra; scope gaps | A product or feature with a clear end point |
| Dedicated developer (staff augmentation) | Hourly or monthly; employment costs, leave, hardware and replacement included | Usually weeks | Minimum terms; results depend on your direction | An ongoing roadmap with someone on your side setting priorities |
| Own hire via an employer of record (EOR) | Salary plus an EOR fee from $599 a month (Remote, Deel) | As long as recruiting takes | You recruit, manage and replace; the fee can exceed a local salary | A long-term core role on your own payroll |
| In-house in the US or UK | Salary plus benefits, taxes, equipment and space | Slowest | Highest cost per hour | Work that must be on site, in your exact hours or with data kept in-country |
Hidden costs to budget for
- Freelancer: platform fees, your time writing tickets and reviewing code, gaps when they are ill or busy elsewhere, and knowledge that leaves with them unless code and documents live in your repositories.
- Agency project: change requests, separately priced discovery or design, hosting and API fees, and maintenance after the warranty.
- Dedicated developer: your management time, ramp-up, minimum terms or notice, shifted-hours premiums and AI tool seats if excluded. GitHub’s paid individual Copilot plans run from $10 to $100 per user per month, with agent work metered in AI credits.
- Own hire via EOR: the fee, recruiting time, equipment, raises and statutory leave. Remote’s Pakistan guide lists 14 days’ paid annual leave after a year, 10 days’ casual leave, 8 days’ sick leave and public holidays, plus one month’s notice.
How much do working hours overlap with yours?
Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5 all year, with no daylight saving. That suits the Gulf and Malaysia and covers UK mornings, but the US needs a shifted day.
| Your office | Difference from Pakistan | Overlap, 9:00–18:00 in both places | What works |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | 5 hours behind (GMT), 4 (BST) | 4 hours in winter, 5 in summer | A later Pakistani start covers most of the UK day |
| New York | 10 hours behind (EST), 9 (EDT) | None | A 14:00–23:00 Pakistan shift gives 4–5 hours |
| San Francisco | 13 hours behind (PST), 12 (PDT) | None | A night shift, or written specs and asynchronous handovers |
| Dubai | 1 hour behind | 8 hours | Same working day |
| Riyadh | 2 hours behind | 7 hours | The Saudi weekend is Friday–Saturday, so Monday to Thursday are shared |
| Kuala Lumpur | 3 hours ahead | 6 hours | Pakistani morning meets Malaysian afternoon |
Put the overlap window in the contract, with any premium for shifted hours. The UK and US change clocks on different dates, so overlap moves by an hour for a few weeks each spring and autumn.
How do AI coding agents change what an hour buys?
Coding agents are now a normal part of the job. In Stack Overflow’s 2026 survey, 73% of developers who use AI coding assistants or agents use them daily, and Claude Code (66%) and GitHub Copilot (59%) are the agents of choice. Google’s DORA research found 90% of respondents use AI at work.
How much more an hour delivers is not settled. METR’s randomised trial found experienced open-source developers took 19% longer with early-2025 AI tools, though they believed they were 20% faster. Its late-2025 follow-up suggests newer tools probably help more, but METR calls the data very weak evidence of how much, partly because 30–50% of developers said they skipped tasks they didn’t want to do without AI.
DORA’s 2025 report found AI adoption now goes with higher delivery throughput but still with lower delivery stability, and 30% of respondents report little or no trust in AI-generated code. Its summary: AI doesn’t fix a team; it amplifies what is already there. For a buyer, that means:
- Don’t pay extra for a promised multiplier. No independent study gives one you can plan around.
- Pay for judgement. Review, testing and architecture are where AI-written code needs a senior engineer.
- Measure outcomes, not hours: lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate and rework.
- Settle tools and data: who pays for seats and usage, which tools may see your code, and whether training on it is off.
- Require human review, automated tests and secret scanning on every AI-written change.
How to vet a developer or firm in Pakistan
- Write a one-page brief: outcome, stack, seniority, overlap hours, budget and start date.
- Shortlist on evidence: shipped products you can open, code samples, verified reviews on directories such as Clutch, and references from clients in your region.
- Interview with your own engineer: system design, live debugging, and a review of an AI-generated pull request with a few planted problems, to see what they catch.
- Run a paid trial: one or two weeks on a small, real ticket in your repository. Judge code quality, questions, estimates and communication.
- Check the business: legal entity, years trading, who employs the developer, and replacement and notice terms. Pakistani IT exporters can register with the Pakistan Software Export Board; ask whether the firm has.
- Get the contract right: IP assignment, confidentiality, code in your repositories from day one, an AI tool policy, data protection terms for your jurisdiction (UK GDPR, or UAE, Saudi or Malaysian law) and payment in arrears.
- Set up access safely: individual accounts, single sign-on and least-privilege permissions, so you can remove access in minutes.
- Review at 30 and 90 days against the brief and the metrics above, then scale up, change people or stop.
How Pixelpk approaches this
Pixelpk Technologies is an AI and software development company headquartered in Lahore, founded in 2018, with 50+ team members, 1,000+ projects shipped and a 4.9/5 rating on Clutch. Our AI-powered dedicated developers start from $25 an hour and can start in 1–2 weeks.

We have pages for buyers in the US (offshore software development), the UAE (software development in Dubai) and Saudi Arabia (app development). Our work includes Flipro, Flutter apps and a Laravel CRM for a renovation platform, and Secure Lien Release, a subscription SaaS for US contractors. Tell us the role, stack and hours you need on our contact page and we’ll send a quote.
Frequently asked questions
What is the hourly rate for a software developer in Pakistan?
Senior freelance developers in Pakistan typically charge $20–$45 an hour, according to Arc’s rate guide, and most Pakistani development firms on Clutch list $25–$49 an hour. Accelerance’s survey puts outsourcing firms across Asia at $24–$31 for junior and $31–$41 for senior developers.
How much does a dedicated developer from Pakistan cost per month?
Multiply the hourly rate by about 160 hours for a full-time month. At the $20–$49 an hour most Pakistani freelancers and firms charge, that is roughly $3,200–$7,800 a month per developer. The rate usually includes salary, employment costs, leave cover, hardware and replacement, but not your management time. Pixelpk’s AI-powered dedicated developers start from $25 an hour.
Is it cheaper to hire developers in Pakistan or India?
Rates are close and the ranges overlap. Arc puts senior freelancers at $20–$45 an hour in Pakistan and $25–$60 in India, while Accelerance groups both into one Asian band for outsourcing firms. The difference between two developers in the same country is usually larger than the difference between countries, so compare shortlisted people on a paid trial.
How much do AI engineers cost in Pakistan?
Public data is thin. Payscale’s machine-learning average in Pakistan is about Rs 595,000 a year, and Levels.fyi’s ML/AI median is PKR 1.55 million in total pay, from only 15 reports. Neither is a buyer rate. Arc reports that AI tools have pushed pricing up for experienced engineers, so ask for evidence of live AI work before paying a premium.
Can Pakistani developers work US or UK hours?
Pakistan is on UTC+5 with no daylight saving. A standard Pakistani working day already overlaps the UK by four hours in winter and five in summer. New York has no overlap on a normal day, so the developer needs a later shift: 14:00–23:00 in Pakistan gives four to five hours. Agree the window and any shift premium in writing.
Should I hire a freelancer or a staff augmentation company in Pakistan?
Hire a freelancer for short, well-defined tasks you can review yourself. Choose a staff augmentation company when the work is ongoing: the firm handles employment, leave cover, hardware and replacement, and you direct the work. For your own payroll, an employer of record works, but fees start at $599 a month, which can exceed a Pakistani developer’s local salary.
